An Overview of Deer Hunting in the United States

Deer hunting is considered to be one of the oldest occupations of men, dating back to as early as 7000 BC. While in the old days people would be hunting deer mainly for their skin and their meet, these days there are no such needs, but the tradition still persists. As such, it has been made into a sport which became the hobby of many people, especially in America.

There trophy which is most coveted by hunters in North America comes from whitetail hunting. This type of deer is usually found East of the Rocky Mountains, and many out there have decided that before they leave this life they need to have that one trophy. On the other side of the Rocky Mountains, another type of deer is sought-after: the mule deer. There are various differences between the two extending to their ears and tail, the shape of their antlers as well as the size of their bodies.

When it comes to ear size the mule deer has longer and larger ears than the whitetail hunting, and when it becomes question of the tail the mule deer have a black-tipped tail, smaller than that of the afore-mentioned counterpart. The bucks of both species have antlers, with the mule deer having ones which are more complex in their structure, branching and rebranching while the ones of the whitetail usually consist of main antlers with small tines sprouting out to the sides.

There are four renowned methods to employ in your deer hunt: still hunting (sitting in your spot, surveying the environment waiting for your prey to show up), line drives (keep chasing the dear into a line of hunters), stand hunting (waiting in an area where deer are likely to show up soon) and stalking which is basically following tracks and trails until you are in a good spot to take a shot at your prey.

As you may have guessed, the hunting is not done at will and in the wild, as you must have a license to be doing your bidding in a permitted zone. You will find that there are many cities out there with various hunting farms which will give you the pleasure of hunting on their territory (extending sometimes to surfaces of over thousands of acres), with plenty of space to set up a deer camp and to find that one big game deer that you have been looking for your whole life.
